I suggest a text search for files
containing "user unknown" just to see what pops up. It might be
interesting.

I'm running IMail. I
haven't noticed anything unusual in the logs, and I'm running two Postfix
boxes in front of the IMail server to ward off distributed dictionary attacks,
and their config has not changed.
