iMail 8.1x doesn't have the multi-threaded SMTP engine yet, which effectively limits you to 60 or so SMTP sessions at once. SmarterMail can easily handle several hundred SMTP sessions ... you will get more milage out of your hardware by moving to SmarterMail 3.
