We recently migrated our Imail server to a new Win2003 Server and we are getting disconnected from specific recipient servers (about 20 of them). But only on messages above approx 1500 bytes. Anything below that line seems to get through.

So I thought it could be an MTU issue. I read in a forum that by adding the EnablePMTUBHDetect DWORD value of 1 to the Tcpip/Parameters registry that this would force the packets to travel at a lower packet size (587 I think). This seemed to help - a lot of retried messages began going through, but we are still seeing this with certain domains above a certain size. A typical log snippet is below.

I have also read that Win2003 Server's DNS Service by default sends packets above the previously standard 512 byte limit and this can cause problems if the recipient server cannot handle that size of a packet. I'm not an expert in this and was hoping someone with networking experience might have an idea. Thanks.

(As a side note - when I migrated the server, we changed local IP addresses, so I didn't export and then import the SMTP32 registry keys. I tried, but the SMTP service wouldn't start, so I reverted back to the default keys that were generated when Imail was installed on the new machine. I'm not sure if this could be involved.)

We are using a Linksys BEFSX41 router. MTU is currently set at 1492.
