Hi,

I apologize if this question has been asked a thousand times before (it
undoubtedly has). I searched the archive and couldn't seem to find the
keywords to find the relevant answer.

Our main Imail server is using a lot of CPU right now. In addition to
Imail, we're running Declude Virus and our own custom spam filter on
this box.

We decided that we would like to offload the spam and virus filtering to
a separate gateway Imail server. As far as we can tell, this is
possible. In this configuration, we figured if a customer tries to send
mail out of our main mail server, we'll have Imail gateway the message
out to the Spam/virus box and then out to the Internet (and vice versa
for incoming mail).

We have come across a situation that we can't seem to easily solve using
this configuration. If a local user sends email to another local user,
the mail would never go out through the spam/virus box (it would all
stay within the main Imail server) and it would be possible for our
users to infect each other with a virus. Is there an easy way around
this?

If we can't find an easy solution, we thought we might simply route SMTP
requests away from our main mail server and to the gateway spam/virus
server so that local mail would still get a virus check. We think this
will work, but we hate to add another level of hardware into the system.

Thanks,

Lance
