Just to reiterate -- I'd trust you to choose which updates to trigger - it certainly doesn't have to be every interim, but in the last month or so, we'd have been better off updating as quickly as possible about three times.
For Sniffer, it's a wget script that's triggered when that specific mailbox gets hit. You decide when to send to that mailbox. Might be as simple as that. No maintenance on your part other than a list of folks who want that service, and an e-mail to that list when appropriate.
