Matt,
Indeed, I'm actually installing from testing, not sid (unstable?), which
I'm guessing will work (havn't tried it - too many packages to update :). I
appologize for that. I sometimes get confused as to the meaning of 'sid'.
Anyway, apt-utils doesn't install under testing, due to the dependency on
libapt-pkg-libc6.2-3-2-3.2.

apt-utils in sid depends on libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5-3.3, which is provided
by
apt. You must be trying to install a different apt-utils.
