I also had a brief look at firebird same time ago and also came
to the same conclusion that there are easier things to get started with,
without hereby denying it's power, userbase or other possibilities.
Currently i'm still using BDE, and will be using it as long as ultimately
possible,
untill i come across a substitute that provides me with the same ease of
installation and implementation and enought guarantees for the future.
The main open question for me still is 'who will be my next trustworthy
database supplier' ...
Over time, multiple alternatives have been presented on this list, but my
main goal is not
to select the ultimate technological candidate, but a solid supplier, that
hopefully will
be around for some time, providing the support when needed, with hopefully a
large
userbase, that can support and enrich itself.
I have a very strong distrust regarding third-party suppliers, since i've
been left in the
dark on a couple of occasions. It's all to easy to present a product or
company as
being the ultimate solid solution in this era of internet marketing
A good poll in the delphi-talk userbase might shed some light on the matter
....
And to Robert : as far as your frustration with Firedbird is concerned : the
situation speaks
for itself wouldn't you think ?

my 2 cents worth ....

Lode :-)
