After doing some research I selected the 'Advantage' database from
Extended systems - now part of Sybase.
The Local server version is free, and moving to the client server model
is easy and inexpensive.
The free management tool is very good and the integration into the
Delphi environment is very tight.
I have been very pleased so far.

I am using the Absolute database. It works fine for the stuff I do and it is
inexpensive - actually free for personal use. Look them up at
_www.componentace.com_ (http://www.componentace.com)
