Still prefer Firebird:
  - Open Source
  - Easy installation/maintenance
  - Good components and drivers (ODBC/Native)
  - Plenty support on the Net
  - Fast
  - Runs multiple databases
  - You can have multiple firebird-servers in your network, each looking for
its own port to connect
  - Multi-platform (Windows/Linux/*nix-variants (Solaris/MAC/FreeBSD, HP-UX))
  - Supports Stored Procedures (I only use Stored Procedures, no dynamic
queries/statements for me anymore)
  - You can perform maintenance/updates etc. through batch-files/input
sql-files without having your
        customer to login etc.

Only 2 shortages (1 of them should be solved in next generation):
  - You can't do joins/queries over multiple databases from 1 database, you
will have to use client for that
(should be solved in next generation)
  - You can't create (temp) tables on the fly in Stored Procedures, allthough
there is a mechanism
in the Stored Procedures that does about the same (For select * from
tables into variables)

After doing some research I selected the 'Advantage' database from
Extended systems - now part of Sybase.
The Local server version is free, and moving to the client server model
is easy and inexpensive.
The free management tool is very good and the integration into the
Delphi environment is very tight.
I have been very pleased so far.
