I would have to agree with you.  Many of the Turbopower groups are dead.
Just because something is open sourced, doesn't mean that the users are
going to put in the time to support it.  Firebird OTOH seems to have
generated enough interest and dedication to thrive in the open source
environment.

My experience with opensource is mixed. I use two opensource 
products, Firebird db and OnGuard. Firebird is an excellent product 
with excellent support via one of these yahoo groups. I can almost 
guarantee an answer to any question i have within a day. OnGuard 
however, does appear to have 'died' or at least be terminally ill! 
Its forum http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=241892 has 
only one post in 2005!
