Simple response from Microsoft: "Windows XP Home Edition does not
include or support any versions (1.0, 2.0, 4.0) of Microsoft Personal
Web Server (PWS). Users that need Web server functionality in a
desktop operating system should use Windows XP Professional."

I cannot help you to any legal way to install IIS on your system. MS
doesn't allow this. Of course, no one will stop you from installing
Apache on your computer, which is just another kind of webserver.

Anyway, XP Home edition is far too limited to use as a webserver
anyway. MS has "crippled" it in a way that you'll need all kinds of
hacks to get things to work, risking the stability of your computer
system.

This link: http://www.scottxp.com/winxp.php#iis provides information
about the hack you need to get IIS 5.0 installed. But do not hold
anyone but yourself responsible if it doesn't work and you get a BSOD
from then on when you start up your system. The risks of hacking your
OS could ultimately lead to the loss of ALL your data on your system.
And this will be seen as a license violation so you risk any future
patches to your system, meaning that you can't get new updates simply
because MS blocked your system for license violations.

Besides, why not just upgrade to XP-Pro?

With kind regards,
X Katja Bergman.
