When I maried my wife I said "for better or worse" and this still hold true after 20 years. This is how I felt about Delphi for a long time. I'm also a hobby programmer and I feel really sorry for those who needs to earn a living because when I looked for a job in programming there was 100+ VB jobs for every Delphi job. So I stuck to Engineering. I really hope Borland wakes up and support the hobbiest that is probably responcible for their foundation. Someone once said: "how soon we forget our youth" I stopped at Version 6 ( started with v1, then 3, then 6). The week after paying huge money for it version 7 was released in the same shop with an introductory price less than halve what I just paid. This had my battery wet.

Back in the days of Turbo Pascal 2 & 3, there were thousands of us - does anyone remember the old Database ToolBox? Also like Peter, I stopped at Delphi 3 Pro, after a long period working with Delphi 1. I did not particularly like Borland's DBE so have used Topaz components from the pre-Windows times. Have thought about a Delphi upgrade but can not justify the expense. Borland seems to have forgotten about the large group who supported them in their early days. Such is progress, but at least it is better than working in COBOL. Cheers, Gordon Tauranga, New Zealand.
