Hello,

Ive asked in the past a question in this forum on how to translate delphi
applications: I';ve received answers pointing me in the direction of delphi
enterprise translation manager.

However, Maybe anyone could give me some additional info of the possiblilities
and maybe other (pro/ cons) options to consider. Any experience localizing
huge applications will be highly appreciated.

We are working with at least 4 programmers on two huge applications (4+
pro-license, 1 enterpr) .
One main application is developed and another second application is derived
afterwards from the first one (derived forms etc). Both applications has to be
developed continuestly. We are working with sourcesave for source history. So
the second appliaction has all the forms from application 1 plus some extra
forms.

We would like to have the actual translation to be done by an external party/
company. Also, this means , although I do have the enterprise edition, the
other programmers that used professional edition, should also have a posibility
to create executables in any of the languages we have to produce.

I did find via google some translation manager components that has to be placed
on every form, but as we use ancestor forms and multiple derived forms, and
about 50 different forms in total, this does not seem to me the easiest way to
do this. Also some string are being used several times in different locations,
but to be able to trnslante them once will reduce costs and time. Also I do hev
to trnaslate structured string like " this is a %s" where only the first part
has to be translated, but the '%s' should remain unchanged at all times. Most
of the string has been placed as "resouce string" in a seperate unit.

This means, I would like to export the resource strings, captions, button ,
help text etc to a file in a way and style that a external translation buro
could handle the translation.

Also, on a regular base, this translation should be updated by thius external
buto or company, but only the changed properties or strings, as we have to pay
for every word that has to be translated. I have also read (i'm not sure
because this is some time ago) that the program that Borland uses as the
"translations manager" could be send (free of charge) to this external buro to
be able to provide them with an application to do the translation. Does this
borland solution forfill the neads to produce a central localizing way ( I did
not find a way on how to filter only the strings we would like to be changed.)
Also what happens if I change a caption afterwards via the object inspector?

Providing with the executable a dll containing all the language information
sounds to me the best an cleanest way, but how to do this in a structured way,
I do not know.

Any ideas, experience, suggestions or external programs that could do the job
would be highly appreciated. Also websites that adds some info on how to manage
this, would be highly appreciated.

I you do need additional info on what we would like to do, please ask.

Many thanks

Andries
