1) No, your app can talk to SQL Server. Not the other way around. SQL Server doesn't seek out applications on the Internet (unless a virus/worm of some sort got into it). 2) No. Someone else might. 3) Of course. Find a component or use sockets to communicate. You need something sitting on the remote system to handle the requests (e.g. a PHP script or a CGI processing unit). 4) With HTTPS, hardly any security implications. HTTPS is run over SSL (Secure Socket Layer) - requires a signed and trusted SSL server certificate to secure the connection. I'm not going to go into any more detail - entire books have been written on the topic. Opening the SQL Server port up on a firewall has serious security implications. Web enabled can also mean accessible via a web browser. I view it as any application that can communicate with servers sitting on ports 80 and 443. -- Thomas Hruska ------------------------ Yahoo!
