Being web enabled means that your application gets access via Internet Explorer or any other web browser on the workstation with all the server stuff sitting on a Intranet web server (IIS, Apache etc). Programming languages like ASP, ASP.Net, JSP, CGI etc. In Delphi you can use WebSnap or in Delphi 8/2005 you can use Asp.Net. Web applications or web-enabled applications are the new buzz word or In thing in the IT industries. I am constantly getting complaints from customers that it is not "web-enabled". This begs the question, "What exactly does web-enabled" mean. I always thought that web-enabled means that I would have to use the browser to render it; however, that would suck. Trying to keep state between screens and all of the problems of sloppy browser controls would make it a completely different app. When I think of my system already being client-server, however, it makes me wonder if there is another way to go. As it stands, I have an executable file that runs on any workstation on the network, passing data back and forth over the network to the database on the server. Isn't that essentially what the web does? So my question is this: Is there a way to configure my existing application and SQL Server to allow them to communicate <securely> over the internet?
