I think that in your case you need just a VPN. Talk with your internet provider 
about installing one...

Are you saying that SQL Server can communicate with my app across the
web?  Do you have a pointer to information on this?  Is there a way to
make a Delphi app talk across HTTP/HTTPS?  If so, what are the
security implications?
