On the other hand, starting with Delphi 7 you may design a middle tier based on web services. Web Services will allow you to access data over the internet using HTTP/HTTPS without a VPN. Most people will think/tell that there is no security using Web Services. Microsoft tells otherwise, but you will have lot of obstacles to overcome in this respect. Probably Delphi 7 won't help you a lot with the security issue of the Web Services... You should upgrade to a newer (or future) version of Delphi or reprogram your application from scratch using Visual Studio. I would stack however with VPN (Virtual Private Network.) Talk with the internet provider!
