Guys,

I actually think if all you want to do is deliver sms. you should get a
gateway that will deliver sms for you. If your ready to pay per sms, then
gateways are very much available. Most of reliable ones will let you do an
HTTP call to their server with number and message as parameter.

While the email route suggested by Glen is viable and good, I personally
find email routing of sms slow. HTTP allows you to deliver an sms instantly
and the response from the server tells you whats happening to your sms.

Do consider a gateway. I personally run an SMSC connected server and I can
give you test parameters to start - for free atleast to build your app.
However, there are other gateways e.g www.clickatell.com

Its your choice but the bottom line should be how reliable the solution you
for is.

SMS can be very tricky.don't commit yourself to your client if the sms
gateway your using is a FREE sms gateway. they usually harvest your number
upto a certain moment then they discontinue the service.

This said, I think we should get more practical.. am happy to setup an
account for you to get started with testing your solution.. Am actually
wondering if we should not just do a Free SMS system!!! With all of us
putting our skills and experiences.

What do you think?

are you trying to achieve?

The aim is simply to send a sms message from a pc (eventually
programatically, but for now manually via Outlook) to amobile phone. Glenn
showed how it could be done by delivering the message directly to the
network provider of the phone you are trying to reach. So, if I want to send
a text to a phone whose number is 07934343434 and whose provider is O2, I
might send a mail with an address line of [EMAIL PROTECTED]
<mailto:07934343434%40O2.co.uk> . Is that sensible, or am I not getting the
right end of the stick?

Regards

Steve
