I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro right now. By all appearances I like it better than ZoneAlarm(which I used before). ZoneAlarm would say it was shut down and still block the communications.

I wasn't able to shutdown, restart, or access Windows Update in manual or auto modes! After a month of trying different things I was told on the Microsoft newsgroups, including the addition of some utilities etc., I finally decided to reformat almost 600 gigs of data on a raid 0 HD! Then after each driver and/or application I re-installed, I would check to see if the problems came back. It wasn't until the very last application I installed that they came back, and the application was PCShield, a combo of their anti-virus and Firewall. I had checked and it was not on any of the lists for apps that did not work well with XP and/or sp2, yet the problems returned. Then Microsoft told me to disable the firewall and see what happened. I did but the problems persisted and they told me that it has to be something else! So after 4 different tech support people and at least 8 very long phone conversations to India, the problems still persisted, and so I decided to start uninstalling applications and drivers in the opposite order in which they were installed. That did the trick because after uninstalling the PCShield firewall everything worked normally again! I took this up with tech support at PCShield, and can you believe that they knew about this problem yet never mentioned it on their web site or in any of the documentation? And not only that, but when I first purchased it you have to go thru a question and answer phase which ascertained it would work properly on my system...even though they knew it would not! So now, after all the work and lost time they're sending me a refund of $10! What a joke! Anyway, I went to the update site and checked to be sure, but I already have every possible update you can get for WinXP. So now it looks as if I've got another problem to contend with! In the meantime, do you or anyone know of a decent firewall that does work with XP Pro and sp2? Cause right now I'm cruising the net with my pants down around my ankles! <g> from: Robert Meek at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] dba "Tangentals Design" home of "PoBoy" freeware Windows apps and utilities located at: www.TangentalsDesign.com e-mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tom Hahn Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2005 10:34 AM To: 'Delphi-Talk Discussion List' Subject: RE: OT Generic Host Process for win32 There is a Microsoft XP update to deal with this.
