Regarding network setup...

The solution which we use here in Poland for DSL internet access is simple DSL
enabled router. Most of them have 4 port switch built in, so you can setup small
home network. This solution has some advantages comparing to cross-over network
cable - you can easily attach more workstation if you need.
Those routers cost about 50$ so I think rather inexpensive and worth considering
it.
Some of these router has wireless access point built in but you have to double
the price (I recommend Linksys products - cheap and reliable - wireless access
point with DSL router and 4 port switch costs in Poland about 120$ and up -
depends on VPN, DynamicIP and other sophisticated features ).

I have just moved to the new built house, I have newtork cables setup in most
rooms but when I get my ADSL internet access I will immiediately buy a router
with wireless access point. I mostly work on my notebook and sometimes I'd like
to work outside in the backyard and don't want to take a cable with me.. ;-)

Regards
Marcin
