Oh yes, we do have truth in advertising laws! Enforcing them
however is another story! <g> Last night I finally got a reply direct from
Samsung, the PDA brand, and they said that the PDA I have is Bluetooth
compatible BUT for some reason when it's packaged for Verizon, it's not sold
configured for Bluetooth. I don't quite understand that except possible it
means the chip Verizon uses in that particular PDA/Phone is non-Bluetooth,
or they change it in some other way? But I also found out that I can use a
Bluetooth headset with an adapter to get the same benefits.
I also checked and found out that Verizon wireless offers a 2mps
speed, but only under optimal conditions. And with the probability of even
worse lag than I'm getting now I guess that idea is shot down altogether.
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that the little cable company that
controls this particular area, and which is surrounded by Comcast service on
all sides, will either get their digital lines up soon, or will sell out to
Comcast. I heard tell that the government gave another extension to them as
far as when they must have their digital equipment in and running though so
I'm not sure when they'll get around to it now!

Funny thing about phone signal strength vs internet capability:
At work I NEVER have any kind of signal problems with my PHONE (also an CDMA
phone), the signal is always shown as 100%. Also with my modem I do have
problems, and the solution the telephony company sugests is using an
external antena for the modem to "stabilse" the signal.
Also at home I did use an external antena for a long while (until they
installed an comunication tower less then 0.5 miles away from me :-) ) and I
used to connect to an comunication tower about 20 km away (that's 12.5
miles). Also the signal level reported on the modem never got over 30%, the
connection quality was UNBELIVEBLE! My connection quality is actually lower
now (using the much closer communication tower) but I was able to get rid of
the antena cable.
One last thing about wireless networking before I move on to the PDA: Expect
longer lag over the wireless network, no matter what the technology is. The
network might be able to push the megabytes, but ping's will be slower. I
noticed this slow-down on my laptop's 802.11g 54mbs wireless connection to
my LAN.
About the PDA: Don't you have a "truth in advertising" act?
