Can you ping the FB server from one of the client machines? Can you telnet to the FB server using a port other than 3050?
Sounds to me like port 3050 is being blocked on the network for some reason. Are there routers that might be doing that between the client machines and the FB server? Are you able to switch the FB server to listen on another port (and switch a client to use the same alternate port) just for a test? Try a well-know port that is usually used for other purposes and therefore likely to not be blocked.
