Unlike Robert, I am more optimistic about Delphi than I have been for quite some time. After 3 years of C# and C++ programming, I came back to a Delphi job last year and I am happy to have made the move.
.net has 2 main advantages for me, garbage collection (changes the way that you program) and the large library. However it is slower (primarily the winforms stuff) and requires a huge runtime, so I am not using it now. If you want to get back into Delphi programming, try the free turbo Delphi at http://turboexplorer.com/.
