One thought I had on the method you described is, how will I access the
modem as a wave device ??

On my v90 KTX voice modem and some others I have installed recently
there is an option under Windows to simply install the modem as a wave
playing device - you can then drive it from the multi-media API .

Reminds me - need to ask Borland to include a serial port component in
Delphi 5 or 6.  Damm fustrating not having one built in...
