We use the full version of PVCS (not the Delphi version). It works well
for us. While its interface isn't perfect, it's relatively quick and
easy to use, and with version labels and branching we can make bug fixes
to previous releases of our software, while simultaneously working on
the new release, and while one of our developers works on the release
after that. All in the same project.
* Delphi Integration
Yup
* Multiple developers
Yup
* Handles pas, dfm, rtf, ico, bmp, res, tlb, doc, db, dbf etc...
Yup
* Would be nice if it new about database files (particularly Interbase).
Um, nope.
* Uses some sort of standard storage scheme so we can switch to another
product if necessary
One of the advantages of the product is that the project config files
are text files, so you can muck with them to your heart's content.
However it uses its own format for storing the archives, so if you
switched to another product it wouldn't be easy to store all the old
version information in the new product. So the answer is, not really.
* Command line tools to extract latest or specific version
Yup
* Some sort of multiple project build/release mechanism
No, you have to write your own scripts to do that. We have automated
build scripts which extract PVCS files, compile the programs, and
package them with Installshield.
* Security
I believe so, although I haven't used it
* Fast & simple to use
Very simple. Speed is ok - good enough for me, anyway.
* Version stamping
Yup.
My two cents worth...
