Was this through the BDE5.01? My problem seemed to be that the Vendor init
driver parameter wouldn't be accepted by the BDE, even though the Reg entry
was actually changed to the current Vendor Ifc file for the Oracle version I
was running, the BDE kept looking for the Default Vendor file. I'l check out
the Super page. Obviously it must work, it's just a matter of which part I
got wrong during the instal.

I managed to connect to Oracle8 via the BDE without any great problem, so it
*can* be done.
I came across some free(?) ODBC connectivity on the Delphi Super Page today,
so you might want to look at that.
