Do you have Oracle client installed? You need to install and configure
Oracle's SQL Net connection software. After a series of settings and
database alias are configured, you can use SQL*Plus to test the
connection.
I did not have any difficulty installing Oracle8, but Oracle8i is a
little bit difficult.
Then setting up BDE alias is very simple. You may not have any problem.
