We have an application that was definitely larger (EXE wise) with a BMP than with 
JPEG...
It did also on small memory machine improve load-times (visually)... I did not verify 
though
whether memory was returned completely and to the same level after the splash screen
was freed for both JPEG and BMP... hopefully the memory management of streams is both
predictable and pessimistic.
