I don't know enough about Interbase to comment - though I am tempted to
switch to a open source interbase, but would another option in your
environment simply be to have multiple copies of a database & write incoming
data to multiple machines?

If the system is the one I am thinking of you have data spread around the
machines in the system via TCP packets - if you stuffed a copy of all the
incoming data into say 2 machines and nominated one as a master then you
could simply switch to second database if the master fails.  Once the master
was back up then you could use IB replication to mirror the machine.
