Along the same lines...
we have had similar problems with Win98 and NT4 and vga drivers (locking up
and not displaying component icons correctly etc). Get the latest driver
from the card manufacturer or try a different card.
I observed problems with cards from Legend as well as S3-based cards.
I ended up buying Riva TNT2 cards and all problems went away.
