You could well be right.
I wonder how they'll get on. I've always seen Borland as a bit of a truck
company - and Corel as a car company, and a European one at that. But then
it makes sense for them to get together in a desperate attempt to enter the
Sport Utility Market (Linux) when neither has the full skillset alone.
Interestingly Corel did the buying, and runs the company, while Dale gets to
pull the strings. If Borland were running the show, with their tendency to
weird compound names like Inpraise (of the orb), and Kylix - the
Intergalactic Barbie, they would have name the company "CoreBor",
descriptive - but not marketing.
Corel, and Dale - of course, do know about marketing, after all Corel were
pragmatic enough to license VBA and actually made a file mangler for Linux.
Dale has successfully wooed the punters, and the press, at BorCon99 and
talked up the Inprise share value, and sold out to a company that has a
chance of keeping it there so that despite his US$1.00 salary he can mint it
on stock options (smarter than me).
The only way now to keep increasing shareholder value (aka Dales salary) is
to hitch a wagon to the Linux train. They need Corel's marketing, Borland's
technology and Linux' sex appeal. My bet is they'll take a little of each
and name it CoBoL.
Ah well...

Ah! a moment of clarity over Sushi.
Last week:"Hello, welcome to Inprise/Borland, how may I help you...?"
This week:"Hello, welcome to Corel/Inprise/Borland, how may I help you...?"
6 months out: "Hello, welcome to Corel/Microsoft, how may I help you....?"
1 year out: "Hello, welcome to AOL Software Tools, how may I help you....?"
