Laurence
I was working in the computer industry in the 80's
Gradutated 1984 set up MWK as MacEwan Wilinson in 1986 and you are
somewhat mistaken
Comparing early PC Unix (Xenix, SCO, Novell) is erroneous for the following
reasons
1/ They weren't open sourced
2/ The internet didn't exist
The main plus for Linux is that if you have a problem (Scanner from DS) then
you have the following
remedies
1/ Look at the source and fix the bug
2/ Go to the internet
3/ Write you own
As an example of that when the new 10GB SCSI drivers cames available there
was a problem
with some drivers - The fix took 24Hrs worldwide - read it again 24hrs!! Not
years
We have just shipped a system with Compaq Win98 pcs with a Windows 2000
Server (on a Proliant) and Office 2000
and it has taken us weeks to get it running reliably - This with hardware
and software from two
industry giants - Long live Linux!!
And for those of you who scoff (And think MWK are just incompetant) I invite
you to contact Me and
if you can determine the source of all the problems and fix them I'll pay
you
Regards
Neven
