I've had it confirmed that you can access earlier ODS version databases
through IB6, but only as long as you don't go back to using your old engine,
because of that bug I mentioned (the IB6 server happily reads the old
format, but doesn't always create ddl (triggers etc.) in the old format,
then the old engine spits the dummy).

Switching access to a database between two different server versions sounds
risky to me - I'd be a bit worried about other, hitherto unsurfaced bugs
crawling up into the limelight.  I guess if it worked then there could be
cases where it would prove useful.  Nobody to sue if it doesn't though. :)

Fair enough. There was a "warning" when it was betathat it wouldn't open
them at all - I guess they fixed it.

Still, a backup/restore is the recommended way to go between
versions - always has been.
