Yep. I am doing a Master of Science degree and then a PhD. The masters
is a two year course and 1 1/2 years of that will be using Delphi. The PhD
is (in theory) a 3 year course and I will use Delphi for all of it - that is if I can
afford it. Further to this, I am involved in teaching from 2 to 4 papers per
year that require the use of Delphi. At the end of my masters and PhD I will
(hopefully) have a programming language written in Delphi. All the design
will be done - if Delphi is too expensive then it will be re-written in something
that is cheaper.
Someone suggested that I wait to buy Delphi until it will return an income.
It would be sad if all research stopped UNTIL the people involved could
pay for all the resources that were needed. If my motivation in life was
$$$s then I would not have left my $80/hour contracting positions to study
full time and work for the uni at $10 per hour (BTW, teaching IS rewarding
in other ways). If I wait five years to purchase Delphi (9 by that time) then
I will hardly have "current" skills.
What is their academic price for Delphi 6?
Chrissy.
