I think somewhere behind closed doors in smokeless-filled rooms
of Borland management this same observation must have been made.
The GPL sooner or later is a PITA to a commercial developer because
all it takes is one component that isn't offered GPL to (ahem) "Stall"
your whole project.
Rather than fight all the GPL advocates Borland wisely chose
to let us get burned ourselves - and then we'll quietly switch
to pay for the no-nonsense licence. Fortunately all the Kylix
components are available in either licence (right?) so switching
will be painless at least with respect to the Borland code
in your app.
Maybe a friendlier choice for Borland would have been to
offer some less "sticky" OSS licencing for Kylix. Interbase
after all is OE but not GPL (thank heavens).
