It would be interesting to know if the .lck is in the zip file. You could
probably test this easy enough, and note at what stage the .lck file actually
disappears.

Unsure about flushing buffers in the app.

On the network client side, I had to tweak Netware Client32. I've also heard
that turning off Opportunistic Locking on NT Server improves stability of large
Paradox databases. Obvious performance considerations.

Assuming you're only concerned with the app client side, you could look at
disabling new style locking symantics and write-behind caching on Win9x in CP /
System / Performance / File System / Troubleshooting. There's probably something
similar in NT & W2K. Again, there are performance considerations.
