You could use the Windows 2000 task scheduler as that runs as a service and by default allows interaction with the desktop, so should still run okay without any changes. But of course if on NT then out of luck ...
 
You could try this for your current programs without any changes to them.

I currently have 2 or 3 applications which run a series of queries, and send emails, depending on the results of those queries.
 
Im about to create another, and i would like your expert opinions on the best way to do these.
 
Currently they are just normal apps run from task manager. 
Unfortunately this means that if i have my server logged off, the apps dont run.
 
I was considering creating the next as a service, (and turning the others into services too).  What say you all?  what are the implications of doing this? Any change required in the way they are coded?
