Yup, It's a known issue. I believe it's something to do with XP by default only looking for text type files with extensions that it knows about.
I believe there may be ways to get it to find pas files etc, although I reckon you're better off with Google Desktop Search and "Larry's Any Text File Indexer" plugin.
