I use World-Net.co.nz which uses TelstraClear for their back bone, and I cannot complain about drop outs. They are very rare and short in duration.
Although I use an ADSL modem in a server rather than an external router, and this has the advantage of using some old free software I found which pings one of several IP addresses every few minutes and if it cannot get through, it disconnects and reconnects to the ISP. Perhaps routers have this function, I'm not sure, but this tends to keep everything working well. Before using this software, I did have situations where everything looked connected but no data flowing. Ross. Of course it probably depends on your region, some exchanges may just be more unreliable than others but performance and stability wise we have been happy at work and home. I think Consumer NZ have a site which shows survey's of ISP broadband speed. >From memory TelstraClear are usually right up there. But I'm fortunately enough to live in their cable area. Their cable service rocks. _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jeremy Coulter Sent: Tuesday, 7 April 2009 9:13 a.m. To: NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi List Subject: Re: [DUG] [OFF TOPIC] Internet connection is not stable As they say on MythBusters "Theres ya problem" I didtech Xtra ages and ages ago for this very reason. I went back to TelstraClear (just for internet) and I think my record is 57days in a row oline and an average of 40 days with no drop outs. However, it could also be your filter or router. e have had some linksys routers do weired things. We put another router in and the sites have been fine.
