I haven't tried it but imagine 3 screens being the maximum I could use, one large one (eg 24" widescreen, probably no more) in centre, and two smaller ones (eg 19" 5x4 ratio) either side. I've heard of people having a 30 inch screen and two smaller screens rotated either side (so that their width matches the height of the big screen) - which means that you don't have a gap directly in front of you. I have a 26 inch screen at home and this was as large as I could justify to myself for the price.
