My experience went like this .
I got a warning about a compatibility issue at install time was still able to proceed with the install. After installing I got a further error/warning, but was still able to re-assure Windows that the installation was actually successful. Subsequently every time I start D7 I get a warning (I think because D7 is modifying files in the Program Files installed folder). This doesn't seem to be avoidable, but equally doesn't appear to have any adverse consequences, it's just an annoyance. Having said that, that is on 32-bit Win 7. There may be additional wrinkles on 64-bit or maybe there is some additional complication in the OP's case. I assumed that the whole idea of this GREAT feature of Windows 7 Professional is to allow running "old" software in e.g. XP mode. The funny thing is that it let me install D4 without any problems at all as a XP-SP2 application. So why doesn't it take D7, or is it just me? Jason suggested to install virtual PC and XP mode, this might work but defeats the whole purpose of Windows7 compatibility feature, doesn't it?
