I'm using BDS2006 with dBase for an order entry program that is based on Accounting for Delphi ( I have made a large number of changes to the original AFD program). Several months ago I created a new program that uses the same BDE alias as the "original" order entry program. This was because the company owner wanted to be able to track open orders whether those orders were from the "original" order program or from the new order program that was written to accommodate a new customer who had a whole new set of business rules in order to manufacture the items for that customer.
Because of the way that MS OS handles multiusers the performance takes a huge hit when the second user logs into either of the two programs. So much so that the employee who runs the second program comes into work a hour early so that she can print the working documents needed by the plant to manufacture the order items. Since time is of the essence this isn't acceptable as this delays by a day or more when the plant actually gets the work orders. So my first question. If I create a new BDE alias for the dBase files that the second program uses will I have to "recreate" the persistent fields in the TTable components? The TTables are on the individual forms as opposed to being on a data module. Oh I plan on putting the files that the second program uses into a new folder. The files that were used in common with the original program will be copied to that folder as well and ultimately will be purged of all records except those that pertain to the new program (new customer). The second question is what challenges will I have when I create a procedure (or another small program) to query both of the order files from each of the two programs so that I can have a report that shows which orders are still open. I haven't worked with data that is "in" two different BDE alias before. Hope the above makes sense. Thank you for your help. Charlie Williamson GA
