GiMP is pretty awesome, however not overly suited to icon creation. I also use it for all my button images. Generally I use a really old version of Corel Draw (7 I think) for creating a vectored image, then copy and paste it into GiMP to sort out the transparancy and shadows and stuff.
What do other people do for button images? Draw their own? get pre-built packs? have an in-house graphic artist?
