I don't use the standard open and save file dialogs, but a Raize
derivative, and with them only the file types you enter filter information
for can be opened or saved unless of course you add a wildcard type like *.*

I don't think they can see files that do not have the extensions you permit.
If you set the FilterIndex property to Text|*.txt, they can only see txt
files.
I imagine that the only way they can see the other files is if you set one
of your FilterIndex
properties to Any|*.*
