That's not the case.  You should install to \program files\ because that is 
where programs go.  You need administrator access to install there, but in 
practice all that happens is another damned uac prompt.  Data is a different 
matter and should go somewhere else.

I haven't found any major problems with installing to Vista once I moved my ini 
files and databases out of \program files\.  There are other gotchas (no .hlp 
viewer) but installs are straight forward.
