Definitely start reading the FireMonkey forums and post questions there, many, many good devs helping out there.
1. Yes, as to compile the app for IOS, you need to use XCode (I use version 4.1) and FPC. 2. Sqlite is native and there are a few places, just google firemonkey sqlite 3. Indy can't be used on IOS, hopefully fixed sometime soon, I actually created a class that uses TIDHttp for Windows and OSX, and for IOS it uses FPC units, I think they are called IPhoneAll, particularly the TNSHTTPSendAndReceive class 4. Pass, haven't actually got this far, for me App Store will be fine. If you don't want App Store maybe the iPad will need to be jailbroken? 5. Updates are easy using App Store from what I can tell. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Robert Martin Sent: Thursday, 8 March 2012 3:48 p.m. To: NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi List Subject: [DUG] iPad App development Hi We have a request for an iPad app (our first). As an owner of XE2 I believe we have the tools for this. However I do have some question... 1) Is Mac OS required. I understand there is an emulator to test apps but do we actually need to buy a Mac to do this work? (would add a significant cost to the project). 2) What database would we use, our data is in Firebird but I believe their is no embedded FB for IOS. Is there a standard / built in DB that we would use and populate data from say XML recieved via Http? 3) I assume I can use http(s) for communication, can I also use FTP? What components would I use (Indy ?) 4) what about deployment? I have used App store but how do we ship out our app, we wouldn't really want to put it out on app store. 5) what about updates ? Does anybody have any recommended sites? Thanks Rob p.s. yes I have only just started looking into this ! _______________________________________________ NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi mailing list Post: [email protected] Admin: http://delphi.org.nz/mailman/listinfo/delphi Unsubscribe: send an email to [email protected] with Subject: unsubscribe _______________________________________________ NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi mailing list Post: [email protected] Admin: http://delphi.org.nz/mailman/listinfo/delphi Unsubscribe: send an email to [email protected] with Subject: unsubscribe
