My 2 cents on it:

1.) “.net is .net” – no matter which of the many .net-languages you use you
will be able to use the whole .net framework from any of them. See
http://www.developerfusion.com/article/9576/the-future-of-net-languages/

2.) This site here says C# has 3-times more popular than VB.NET ..
http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html ... sticking
to something that is popular is probably a wise decision. The more popular
something is the more access you will have to developers and community support.
I am a C# guy and love it .. but all of that said, VB.NET seems to be popular
enough to make it a valid & viable choice too.

I am sure many old-timer Delphi developers still have that mindset that VB
developers are mostly second-class programmers with bad OOP skills and often
lacking technical knowledge. But let’s be fair – ever since the release of
VB.Net that labeling is probably no longer warranted.

Kind Regards,
Stefan Mueller

While we all agree with you that C# would be the way to go IF you have to go
.Net, the powers that be (in Denmark) have decreed that VB is the be all and
end all and they can get heaps of cheap Indian labour to cut code in it :-(

If you have to move to .Net, why not do it properly and move to C#???

You really can't seriously talk about "future" development and VB.Net in the
same sentence without someone choking on their lunch.

Hi All

I've been asked by a colleague for a recommendation for a training organisation
(or trainer) to lead a team on the conversion from Delphi to .Net in the
Auckland area. While the team is screaming at the change, the organisation has
decreed that future development will be in (groan) VB.Net

Most of the organisations advertising .Net training are offering courses for
beginning developers while what is needed is cross training for experienced
Delphi guys.

Anyone have any recommendations (other than find another job)?

Stephen
