I had go late last year with Twilio. Their REST api is easy enough. I didn't end up using sms in the end though. The trouble with Twilio was that, for sending sms messages to NZ phones, the messages would end up coming from random NZ phone numbers. It would never be the same number from txt to txt. From memory you can't buy NZ numbers from Twilio that you can send messages from. I contacted support and they basically said that, yup, that was a problem, and that's that.
Still, if you can live with not having a set number, then it might be worth checking out. Cheers, Nick Barrett
