In the past I've used either Skype (via COM automation), which I had a number of issues of messages just getting eaten and not delivered (might be solved now), and SMS Gateway on android which has a number of APIs (I used HTTP) and will allow you to send through a handset - and yes Spark will have a problem with you doing this if you are sending large numbers of messages - we weren't sending huge volumes and somewhat got around the issue by adding a random delay between messages, but we still got some warning txt messages.
