Hi All. We have a wee app. that connects to an Interbase DB. The machine already has an app. running that connects to the same DB. (Its not our app. and we are just tapping into the Db to provde some extra bits for your needs)
I am using D6 sp2 and the Interbase Controls that come with Delphi. The problem we seem to get on SOME systems, not all, is that it can take minutes rather than seconds to do a pretty simple insert. I added some debug code into tell me what in the process takes the longest time, and its the table append that takes the longest, as below :- Table Append started : 09:12:59.640 Table Append stopped : 09:14:16.281 There are oh, 5-6 things being added into the record, and its just ID's or small amounts of text, < 20 chars. BUT, on other machines the whole process including the table inserts take like 15 seconds ! The machines are bascially the same machines, because we use scripted builds and the machine specs are usually the same or very similar. One site that has mentioned the slowness, their DB is 1.2GB, so we did a reindex, and it sped it up from over 4 mins to 2:20 odd. BUT then another sites DB is only 480MB odd, and they have a speed problem. Other things to know, they are all using citrix, but this does not seem to be related at all to the issue. SO, does anyone have any ideas what I can look at? Should I use different DB controls Free or sharware, dont care. Oh, the other thing too, the MAIN application that we are tappign into, when it does the same thing as our wee app. its only takes seconds on the same machine, but I dont know what controls they are using. I see the BDE is installed so they COULD be using that, but not 100% sure. REALLY keen some some suggestions here. its now got to that BLOODY annyoing stage, and I have run out of ideas.
